Frequently Asked Questions about the Robbins Motel

Why are the rooms so cheap compared to most motels in Bar Harbor?

The answer is two-fold. First, we have run this motel for over 40 years with the same goal, to rent every room every night. Our feeling is that if we rent all thirty rooms each night that means thirty people who might come back. If we charged more we might only rent half the rooms and only have the potential for half the repeat customers. Thus, we charge the prices we do to hopefully make some money today and tomorrow. Second, the rooms and motel are as advertised, nothing fancy with a premium on clean, good linens, hot water, and a television, heater, and a.c. that work.

How can I book a room online?

At the moment you cannot. We are not affiliated with any online hotel booking site. Those sites charge for every booking and we prefer to pass those savings on to you. In addition, because each of those sites charges a slightly different commision, I would have customers staying in similar rooms paying differing amounts. We prefer to charge every customer the same price. It's seems fairer that way. To make a reservation we would prefer you call us at 800-858-0769 or you can contact us by email.

Why does your advertising say for only 1 or 2 people?

The rooms only have one queen-sized bed. Because of this we limit the number of people to a room to two regardless of age. If your party includes more than two people you are more than welcome to get multiple rooms. And, to be honest, at my prices you can get two or three rooms here for what it might cost you for one room at other hotels in Bar Harbor.

How large are your rooms?

Because the motel was built over a number of years I have several different sizes of rooms. But the simplest answer is they are all small. If you are active during the day and just want a clean room to come back to then I may be the place for you. If you want to lounge in the room all day, then I suggest you look elseswhere. The rooms are small and simply furnished.

How far is your motel from Acadia National Park and downtown Bar Harbor?

We are two miles from the main entrance to Acadia National Park and four miles to downtown Bar Harbor.

Do you have a water view?

Yes, every time it rains.

Do your rooms have bathrooms?

My dad used to say, "Yep. They're a two mile hike out back and when you get there you better have a dime."
Of course, they all have a private bath.

What will the weather be like in --------- ? (pick your day, month, or year)

Truthfully, how am I supposed to know? What I do know is that it's cold in May, usually. It's warmer in June, usually. It's hot in July and August, usually. It's colder in September, usually. And it's cold in October, usually.

Is there a refrigerator and/or microwave in the room?

No. We do, however, have a communal microwave in the office and an ice machine on the premises.

Are there coffee makers in the rooms?

No. We do have free coffee available during the morning in the office. Feel free to bring your own coffee maker for your room.

Do you have internet access?

Yes. Most rooms have excellent wireless capability. Some rooms have limited or no service. If it's important to you please ask us and we'll do our best to give you a room with good service. Worst case, you'll get good reception right outside the room or you can come to the office which has an excellent signal.

What is your cancellation policy?

You may call to cancel all the way up until noon of your arrival day with no penalty. Otherwise, you will be charged one days rent.

Do you have a pool?

No.

Do you accept pets?

No.

What times of the year are you open?

We are open from May until the middle of October. The day we open in May is variable and weather dependent. If you're coming in May just give me a call at the end of April and I'll know more then. We usually close in October on the weekend after Colombus Day weekend.
