The park newspaper, the Beaver Log, includes a schedule of Ranger-led activities presented from mid-June to mid-October. Program schedules are not available by mail. Children 8 years or older can participate in the Junior Ranger program during the summer.
Some roads, facilities and services are closed during the winter months (November - April). During this time you may obtain information at Park Headquarters located on Highway 233 three miles west of Bar Harbor. Daily hours are 8:00AM to 4:30PM.
Schoodic Peninsula, the only portion of Acadia National Park found on the mainland, boasts granite headlands that bear erosional scars of storm waves and flood tides. Although similar in scenic splendor to portions of Mount Desert Island, the Schoodic coast is a more secluded area. It is about a one hour drive from the park visitor center to Schoodic Peninsula via Route 1 and Route 186. This is a day use only area.
Isle au Haut, remote and inaccessible to automobile traffic, is linked to the mainland by a mailboat from Stonington. Limited camping is available from mid-May to mid-October. Camping is by mail reservation only. Call the park for more information.
